Reclaiming Stolen Lives
Conference on Forensic Sciences and Human Rights

The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) organized the Conference "Reclaiming Stolen Lives: Forensic Sciences And Human Rights" in conjunction with the South African Foundation for Human Rights and the support of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in South Africa.
The conference took place between 31st October and 4th November in Johannesburg and was attended by representatives of NGO’s and forensic experts of Angola, Burundi, Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
Experts and forensic specialists from the EAAF and other institutions from the USA and Denmark gave lectures on the application of forensic sciences in the research field as well as documentation of Human Rights violations of survivors of torture as well as the exhumation and identification of missing persons and mass graves.
The objectives of the Conference were to promote dialogue between NGOs and forensic specialists, and develop a network between countries in Africa on the topic.
The EAAF has been working in the African continent since 1994, having developed missions in 14 countries to date, in collaboration with the "National Prosecuting Authority" (NPA), the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development of the Republic of South Africa. At the inauguration of the conference, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Dr. Andries Nel, stressed South Africa's support to the EAAF work in the African continent.
