Diplomatic Spouses Association keeps 83 girls in school for a year with contribution

3 December 2015, Pretoria

The International Diplomatic Spouses Association – South Africa (IDSA) has donated much-needed supplies to the Pride of the Rural Girl campaign.

With a generous contribution from Dischem, IDSA donated over 3,000 sanitary pads to the Thembekile Mandela Foundation for its Pride of the Rural Girl campaign.

According to President of IDSA, Ruth Lenk when “members learned that hundreds of thousands of high school girls living in rural areas of South Africa  were missing two and a half months of school each year because they cannot afford sanitary pads, we had to do something about it.” She adds that education is important in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering girls.

In expressing her appreciation for the donation, Founder of the Foundation, Ndileka Mandela noted that “the contribution will keep at least 83 girls in school for a year and we will ensure that it reaches the most needy girls.”

To date IDSA has donated almost 9,000 sanitary pads to the Pride of the Rural Girl campaign.
