Kazakhstan SA 25 Years

On May 26, 2017, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in South Africa hosted an official reception on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and South Africa.

The Reception was attended by the representatives from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry and other state bodies of South Africa, business community, experts from the leading research and analytical centers, media and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to South Africa.

In his welcoming speech, HE Mr. Talgat Kaliyev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to South Africa, noted that South Africa became one of the first countries, that established relations with Kazakhstan after its independence.

During the last 25 years Kazakhstan and South Africa demonstrated an outstanding example of steady relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Ambassador Kaliyev drew attention to the initiatives of HE Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan on the redistribution of powers between the branches of government, implementation of Kazakhstan’s third modernization to create a new model of economic growth, as well as the modernization of Kazakhstan’s identity.

Ambassador Kaliyev informed guests about "Nurly Zhol" Kazakhstan's Development Strategy 2050 noting the importance of the development of "green energy".

He expressed his appreciation of South Africa's participation in the "EXPO-2017" International Specialized Exhibition being hosted in Astana, the Kazakh capital.

In his response as the official representative of the South African government at the commemoration of this milestone between the two countries Mr. Daan du Toit, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science and Technologies shared his vision on further cooperation between South Africa and Kazakhstan based on mutual benefits and common goals.

Speaking on the rising role of Kazakhstan in Africa, Du Toit congratulated Kazakhstan with its successful membership at the United Nations Security Council for the term 2017-2018 and expressed the appreciation for Kazakhstan’s commitment in working closely with the African continent in advancing the African Agenda for the duration of its term on the Council.
