Inti Raymi 2018

21 June 2018

June 21 marks the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere and on this day Ms Maria Soledad Cordova Montero, Ambassador of Ecuador to South Africa celebrated Inti Raymi.

A gathering of the diplomatic corps and friends of Ecuador lit candles to mark this colourful tradition and gave thanks to nature and its abundance.

Ecuador is a country with a rich indigenous heritage that needs to be preserved and cultural traditions such as Inti Raymi are being revived to promote the cultural richness of the country.

Ambassador Cordova used the opportunity to highlight Ecuador’s many tourist attractions which include, but are definitely not limited to Kichwa villages, Amazonian rainforest and the breathtaking heights of the Andes. It is also famous for its chocolate; some say the best chocolate in the world.
