Lebanese raise funds for education

The Southern African Lebanese Chamber of Commerce (SALCOC) organized a Lebanese luncheon to raise funds for the South African Lebanese Education Advancement Foundation (SALEAF) on the occasion of the visit of the renowned Lebanese Chef Joe Barza to South Africa on the invitation of Marble restaurant.

Barza is world-renowned for his championing of Lebanese cuisine and has over 30 years of experience in the industry, including hosting Top Chef. His culinary philosophy is sharing the message of Lebanese cooking with the world. He moved from Lebanon to South Africa in the 1980's where he spent six years working as a chef, and it is here, in Hillbrow, that his career began.

The Embassy of Lebanon and  Mr. Kabalan Frangieh, Ambassador of Lebanon was at the heart of the event bringing together different associations of the Lebanese Community in South Africa.

Amongst the guests were the Ambassadors of the Holy See, Panama, Uruguay, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Ukraine, Vice Superior Reverend Father Jean Yammine and the Reverend fathers. Present as well were Mr. Alan Kourie and Mr. Sean Tarry.

The founders of SALEAF were honored during the event to show gratitude for their work in the Foundation and for their contribution to help fund tuition fees of students of Lebanese descent.
