15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Ties between South Africa and China

On March 13th 2013, H.E. Ambassador Bheki Langa attended the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between South Africa and China which was co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFF) and the South African Embassy in Beijing. The special guests’ list included the following: H.E. Mr Abdul’ahat Abdurixit, President of the Chinese-African People’s Friendship Association (CAPFA), H.E. Mr Zhai Jun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Feng Zuoku, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and CAPFA, and H.E. Ambassador Zhong Jianhua, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs and former Ambassador to South Africa. The rest of the 170 attendees included representation from various sectors such as SA Business, Chinese Ministries, academics and the media.

 
Mr Feng Zuoku, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and CAPFA expressed his happiness to co-host the programme on the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between South Africa and China. Mr Feng stressed the valuable role that the CAPFA and the South African Embassy plays in fostering  people to people contact which in turn contributes to the development of bilateral relations..The CAPFA was looking forward to strengthening its cooperation with the South African Embassy and South Africa in general to advance friendship and understanding between both countries.

In his speech, Ambassador Langa reviewed the achievements of South Africa-China relations in politics, economy and culture over the past 15 years of diplomatic ties.  Since the official establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on 1 January 1998 the relationship between the two countries have grown stronger, passing through three principal stages: from a Partnership in 2000, through a Strategic Partnership in 2004, to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2010. Ambassador Langa stated that “The rapid expansion and deepening of bilateral relations between China and South Africa has to a large extent been due to the warm and cordial relations between the political leaders of the two countries, based on respect, trust and mutual respect for each other’s core interests.”

Ambassador Langa expressed his sincere gratitude to people from all social works of life who have contributed to the China-South Africa friendship and looked forward to another successful 15 years of diplomatic relations with China.
