Mr Virendra Gupta, High Commissioner of India in South Africa (2nd from right) addressing a media briefing in Johannesburg

9 May 2013

INDIAFRICA: A Shared Future looks to engage the youth in India and Africa through contests, fellowships, collaborative projects, internships, events and cultural exchanges. The programme is multifaceted in that though it focuses on the youth, it also builds up the ecosystem amongst multiple stakeholders ... institutions, organisations, think-tanks, corporates and governments.

The INDIAFRICA Festival 2013 in Johannesburg, which takes place from 13th May – 24th May 2013 will reach out to the cosmopolitan young population of this city with contests, cinema, music, art & photography exhibitions, entrepreneurship and bloggers workshops, panel discussions and awards functions; that will mark the successful completion of the programme's second edition of multi-discipline competitions.

INDIAFRICA has received participation in its competitions from over 5000 young people from across 36 African countries and India.

WITS Business School will host the finals of the 2nd INDIAFRICA Business Venture Competition on May 16. Four African and four Indian teams will compete for two Grand Prizes - all expenses trips for one African and one Indian to Davos in January 2014 during the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting to interact with global business leaders, angel investors and media at the proposed INDIAFRICA Youth Hub in Davos.

The winners of the 2nd INDIAFRICA Poster Design Competition will be announced at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA), University of Johannesburg on Friday, May 17. Mr Paul Mashatile, Honourable Minister of Arts & Culture of South Africa has been invited to be the Chief Guest and also open an exhibition of the winning poster designs, which are themed ‘What freedom means to you’.

The Festival is all about discovering, sharing and harnessing the innovative energies of young Africans and Indians. Each element of the festival is designed to ignite and inspire young minds to think big, think holistic and think global while working in collaboration with multiple institutions and communities in Johannesburg.
