A Classical Guitar Concert to celebrate 30 years of South Africa – Mexico relations

Mexico and South Africa celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. The Embassy of Mexico in South Africa marked this occasion with a Classical Guitar Concert hosted in Pretoria.
Ambassador of Mexico to South Africa Sara Valdés Bolaño outlined the two countries’ bilateral relations. She emphasized that Mexico and South Africa share core values, including their commitment to a strong multilateral system, promoting democratic and progressive agendas such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the promotion of human rights, the fight against climate change, food security, inclusive socio-economic development, and the value of diversity, equality, and non-discrimination.

Ambassador Sadick Jaffer from the South African Department of Trade, Industry and Competition said that while the relations between the two countries are strong, closer ties are being forged between business communities of both countries to strengthen trade and investment.
Interim Vice Chancellor of the University of Pretoria also highlighted the close relations between the two countries, especially in the education sectors.
South African guitarist Abri Jordaan and Mexican guitarist Manuel Rubio entertained guests with solo classical and contemporary pieces as well as a collaboration that reflected the diversity of both countries’ rich musical heritage.
The very talented Hatfield Square Choir delighted the audience with their ensemble of traditional songs. The Choir was artfully and skilfully led by Conductor Siyabonga Zwane.
