South African Haute Couture Collaboration in Greece

12 June 2025

On Wednesday, 04 June 2025, a charity fashion show, Hautes Grecians 2025 was held in the historic gardens of South Africa’s Official Residence in Greece. The fashion show brought together the creative forces of Greece and South Africa, celebrating cultural identity and the power of expression through haute couture. This collaboration highlighted the unique blend of Greek and African cultural influences, as well as economic and career opportunities in the fashion, clothing and textiles industry.

The catwalk featured designs of Maison Faliakos, Markellos Polydorou, Deux Hommes, and KHOSI NKOSI from South Africa. KHOSI NKOSI is a prominent South African fashion house that is owned by Nobukhosi and Thabo Kukwevho. It is known for its use of vibrant and bold designs that celebrate African heritage and culture. Its collection normally features intricate patterns with rich colours that incorporate artistic elements such as beadwork which pay tribute to traditional African attire while appealing to contemporary fashion.

The South Africa Ambassador, Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela noted, in her welcoming remarks, the importance of the long-standing bilateral relations that exist between South Africa and Greece. The Ambassador emphasised that South Africa continues to create platforms for partnerships across various spheres, including the arts, culture, education and business. The participation of a South African fashion house highlighted the role that cultural exchanges play in building bridges and the importance of the fashion, clothing and textile industry. The Ambassador also commended Ms Jenny Balatsinou for her innovative concepts behind women empowerment and the protection of vulnerable children.

Ms Jenny Balatsinou, Director of JENNYGR and member of the Board of Directors of Eliza addressed the audience. She noted that fashion opens opportunities for dialogue and creativity, beyond borders. Ms Balatsinou thanked Ambassador Msengana-Ndlela and the Embassy for the collaboration and stated that the event supports the meaningful cause of Eliza Society in assisting children facing abuse and neglect.

This event was attended by Ambassadors of various countries that are represented in Greece, government officials, businesspeople, representatives of community organisations, pioneers and professionals in the fashion industry, and South Africans living in Greece.
