Putin and Lula strengthen partnership for BRICS in telephone conversation

Leaders discuss bilateral cooperation and the next steps in strengthening the BRICS group
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spoke by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Saturday (9), as reported in an official statement from the Planalto presidential palace and echoed by Agência Brasil.
The conversation, which lasted 40 minutes, covered a range of diplomatic and economic topics, including cooperation between the two countries within BRICS. President Putin thanked Brazil for the positive outcomes of the BRICS Summit, held in July this year in Rio de Janeiro.
In addition, the two leaders discussed intensifying bilateral collaboration and reiterated the aim of holding, still in 2025, the next meeting of the Brazilian-Russian High-Level Cooperation Commission.
Over the past week, other BRICS leaders also connected by telephone to strengthen ties and discuss strategic issues. Vladimir Putin and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and South Africa. The Russian president also spoke with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and among other topics, they addressed preparations for the SCO Summit, scheduled to take place in Tianjin, China.
President Lula da Silva also had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS. On that occasion, the leaders expressed their intention to deepen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, technology, energy, agriculture, and health, among others.
