South African tea and food products to be showcased during the Hong Kong International Tea Fair and Hong Kong Food Expo

South African tea and food products are going to be showcased through exhibitions and live tasting during the Hong Kong International Tea Fair and the Hong Kong Food Expo organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). 

These events are annual events that showcase food and a variety of high-quality specialty teas including delicate tea ware from different tea-producing and tea-trading regions. Various countries are expected to participate including China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka and South Africa. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC is a key institution dedicated to promoting international trade and Hong Kong’s economic development. 

The Tea Fair which is taking place from 14- 16 August 2025 is aimed at both trade buyers and the general public, who can enjoy various tea-related activities, such as tea tasting, tea art performances, tea competitions, seminars and workshops. The fair also features Click2Match, an AI-enabled business matching platform that connects buyers and exhibitors around the world.

The HKTDC Food Expo which is taking place on 14-18 August 2025 is Asia’s leading trade and public exhibition for food and gastronomy. The expo serves as a forward-looking platform that brings together the entire spectrum of the food market under one roof. Its clearly defined sections ensure remarkable diversity. 

The Food Expo is reserved exclusively for industry professionals, focusing on innovation, technological advancements, and international sourcing. The Food Expo also showcases premium products, everyday classics, and specialties from around the globe, while also addressing current trends such as alternative proteins, 3D food printing, and intelligent packaging solutions. 

The expo is a central meeting point for decision-makers and trendsetters from retail, wholesale, import, export, gastronomy, and hospitality. Exhibitors and visitors represent every segment of the international food and beverage industry, including manufacturers, distributors, buyers, and food enthusiasts.

In light of the President’s call for the South African diplomatic Missions to enhance their role in economic diplomacy promoting South African products as well as looking for markets for South African products, the Mission will be showcasing South Africa’s Food and Tea products during the two events. 

Four companies  will exhibit South African Tea products namely Skywoo which is the Hong Kong Company that imports Rooibos tea,  Rooibos Pty Ltd  based in Shanghai, Magwa Estate Tea based in Lambase, Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape (SA) and Rooibos Laagar. South African beef, lamb, biltong and canned products will also be exhibited during the Hong Kong Food Fair.

The South African Consulate in Hong Kong will organise presentations introducing the brands that will be exhibited. The officials of the Consulate will take the audience through the tea and diverse food culture of South Africa focusing on the meat and canned products, South Africa’s tea heritage, market share and its global presence whilst the representatives of the South African tea brands will indulge people at great lengths on the diverse teas and their benefits as well as the food products.

Both these events provide a platform to promote South African products, networking, create business relations as well as provide access to global markets.
