India is rapidly strengthening its position in the global economy and is on course to become the world’s third-largest economy in the near future, according to a new development assessment, reports IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Bharat Progress Report 2025–26 highlights more than 100 major national achievements across infrastructure, digital systems, science, and clean energy over the past year, underscoring the country’s expanding economic and technological capabilities.

According to the report, India became the world’s fourth-largest economy in 2025, reaching approximately US$4.18 trillion. With economic growth estimated at 8.2 per cent, India remains the fastest-growing major economy globally and is projected to soon rank third worldwide.

Economic momentum has been supported by strong financial and investment indicators. Total foreign direct investment inflows have exceeded US$1.15 trillion. Investor confidence has also contributed to significant growth in the country’s financial markets and savings sector.

Infrastructure development has also been a major driver of growth. Investments in highways and logistics corridors have further strengthened supply chains and reduced transportation costs across the country.

At the same time, the country has accelerated its transition towards clean energy. The share of non-fossil sources in India’s total installed electricity capacity has reached 50 per cent – five years ahead of the national target for 2030 – supported by rapid expansion in solar, hydroelectric and wind power generation.

Analysts say the combination of sustained economic growth, large-scale infrastructure development, technological innovation and progress in renewable energy is positioning India as a key engine of global economic expansion in the coming decade.
