The National School of Government in South Africa and the Malawi School of Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in public sector training and capacity building.

The agreement was led by Acting Principal Phindile Mkwanazi and Malawi’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Stella Chiripo Ndau.

According to the institutions, the MOU marks the culmination of several years of engagement and a shared commitment to enhancing governance and administrative capacity. Both parties indicated that the partnership will create opportunities for mutual learning and institutional strengthening.

The National School of Government is mandated to provide education, training and development interventions for public servants in South Africa, with a focus on building a capable and developmental state. Similarly, the Malawi School of Government is responsible for training public sector officials in Malawi to improve governance and service delivery.

Areas of cooperation under the agreement are expected to include the exchange of knowledge and best practices in public administration, as well as collaboration on training and development initiatives.

The partnership also reflects broader continental priorities to strengthen governance systems and public sector capability, in line with frameworks such as African Union’s Agenda 2063, which emphasises the importance of strong institutions and leadership across Africa.

Both institutions expressed their intention to contribute to a wider African network of schools of government, supporting ongoing efforts to improve public administration across the continent.
