The Kimberley Process vital for emerging miners

Dr. Navin Naidoo, an emerging South African diamond miner said that the Kimberley Process (KP) had been particularly helpful to him in the trading of certified diamonds and mining with a conscience.  
Dr. Naidoo is a medical doctor who also has a legal degree and is a practicing advocate.
He has acquired a controlling stake in a diamond mine in the North West Province and has permits to mine various sites.
His companies Bloodless Diamonds and Staten Island Trading are keen to invest in the growing precious gems market particularly in China and are actively seeking partners.
At a conference  held in Johannesburg in November 2013 on the 10th Anniversary of Kimberley Process, Deputy President of South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe acknowledged the work of KP over the past decade in.
He said that the key to addressing the challenges that remain would be to align the response with the core objective of the Kimberley Process by ensuring that its contribution leads to peace, security, stability and development -particularly on the African continent.
Ten years ago the KP was initiated to curb the trade in ‘conflict diamonds’.     
Comprising of governments, diamond industry players and civil society organizations, KP introduced a certification scheme to regulate the trade in diamonds.
China takes over the chair of KP from South Africa.
