Freedom Day celebrated in Botswana

H.E. High Commissioner Mdu Lembede of South Africa in Botswana cutting the “20 Years of Freedom” cake with the Honourable Minister Phandu Skelemani of Botswana.

The South African High Commission in Botswana hosted its 20th Freedom Day Celebrations on 29 April 2014 at the Gaborone Sun.
The Government of Botswana was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Phandu Skelemani.
Minister Skelemani commended South Africa for its unrelenting commitment to building a truly non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and free society.
High Commissioner Lembede indicated that South Africa counts Botswana as its immediate neighbour who sacrificed much and suffered tremendously in helping black South Africans defeat the apartheid system in achieving South Africa’s independence. He mentioned that Botswana played a crucial role in assisting and protecting struggle leaders during the war for liberation.
Proceedings were led by the Minister-Counsellor Mr Mthembisi Mjikeliso.
The Botswana Defence Force Band provided entertainment.
The event was covered on Botswana Television News, the Botswana Daily News and the Monday Times Newspapers.
The event was attended by more than 200 guests.
