Global Tea Party for 150th year of Ceylon Tea
|
The global tea party to mark the 150th year of Ceylon Tea was held on 6th July 2017 at the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Durban with the participation of over 50 persons representing Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls based in Durban, officials from the Durban Chamber, business people, journalists, and community members.

The 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland

Mr. Li Song, the Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pretoria hosted a reception on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.
Mr Christophe Farnaud, Ambassador of France to South Africa hosted special celebrations this year, on the occasion of Bastille Day, the French National Day (also known as Quatorze juillet). Bastille Day marks the beginning of the French Revolution with the storming of the ancient royal fortress on this day in 1789. During the reception, street artists Senzo and Prefixx, facilitated by NGO Baz-Art, did a live graffiti wall promoting #Paris2024. The Bastille Day celebration this year was in support of the city of Paris’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. South African celebrity singer Zoë Modiga entertained guests.
Dr Maria Eugenia Correa Olarte, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to South Africa hosted a reception to celebrate the 207th Anniversary of Colombia's Independence.In her remarks Ambassador Olarte said that Colombia is the second country with the most biodiversity per square kilometer in the world. Part of this biodiversity is in the Pacific Coast and in the Amazon, a total 48 million hectares, equivalent to 42.3% of Colombia's national territory.She also said that after 52 years of living in great internal conflict a peace agreement was signed with the FARC, the oldest guerrilla in the world, on January 25, 2016 and on the 27th of June 2017, the FARC finalized the delivery of their weapons.

Established in 2009, One Young World hosts an annual Summit attended by 1,300 delegates from over 196 countries. One Young World is a unique platform for young leaders to network with peers from every country and sector, sharing ideas to develop solutions to address urgent global issues. In South Africa ten finalists were shortlisted from over 500 applicants for two scholarships to attend One Young World Summit 2017 Bogotá. The announcement was made at Thomson Reuters in Sandton. Present was Dr. María Eugenia Correa Olarte, Ambassador of Colombia in South Africa, who, in welcoming the South African delegation said her country is proud to host the Summit, that "Bogotá is waiting for you with open arms" and that the Summit will provide an opportunity to "make the world's young people aware of their responsibility, their commitment as a new generation to help change the world."
