Ten years ago, a few Greek-South African rugby enthusiasts, founded the “Attica Springboks Rugby Club” in Athens, Greece.  The team today comprised of players of various nationalities and for the first time since its founding in 2002, the “Attica Springboks” won the Greek Championship.

The team is coached by a Greek-South African, Nikos Petropoulos, who was also recently appointed as the coach of the Greek National Rugby Team. Within the framework of promoting people-to-people relations and in accordance with the Public Diplomacy KRA in this Mission’s APP, Ambassador Rapulane (Zeph) Makgetla hosted a “Braai”, in typical South African style, to honour these rugby players and the Club’s Board Members.  Gifts of signed rugby balls were exchanged while the team and Embassy staff all enjoyed an unforgettable evening.
